IGP Important Information - 8th Grade

It’s hard to believe that your child will be entering high school next year!  In order to prepare them for this new phase, I must meet with every parent and student to create an IGP – IGP stands for individualized graduation plan.  Your child will have an IGP throughout high school, and you will meet with your child’s high school counselor to update/revise each academic year.

Our conference will focus mainly on determining initial career interests, overview of required credits in high school, exploring educational opportunities, etc.  You will also be able to access the IGP using the PowerSchool parent portal.

I will need to meet with you to discuss and begin the IGP process with your 8th grader.  Please email me with your 3 top choices for a meeting – I will need the date and time.  I am available for IGP conferences  Monday – Friday any time between 7:00 am – 4:00 pm.  If these times will not work for you, please email me and we can make other arrangements.

I look forward to helping your child be successful in high school next year!

This is a brief overview of career clusters and majors - these are used at various high schools across the state.  We will be discussing these during the IGP conferences.

Career clusters help you acquire the knowledge and skills you need to reach your personal career goals. They organize what you learn in school around specific professional fields such as Education and Training or Information Technology Information Technology, for example, focuses on professions that require highly technical training, while Human Services emphasizes occupations that involve people skills. South Carolina recognizes these 16 career clusters offered at various high schools across the state.
